Data to Improve Service and Win Funding

Social service providers are increasingly being judged on outcomes - not inputs. Treatment facilities need to justify admissions to their facilities and will be penalized for a high incidence of adverse events.

Providers have to demonstrate positive outcomes to compete for funding. In order to justify funding, agencies will either have to demonstrate improving outcomes or document the difficulty of their caseloads. As Federal and State budgets come under pressure, agencies will need tools to compete for an increasingly limited funding pool. Some agencies may choose to implement extensive software implementations such as an EHR. SMR's focus is to supply data to compete as quickly as possible with minimal up front effort.

SMR enables an organization to focus primarily on generating data that can improve daily decisions and operations, and demonstrate that improvement to funders. SMR does not focus on transactional processes such as claim submission, accounts receivable, or other traditionally accounting and inventory functions. However, if you want to compete on the quality of your services and generate data to improve those metrics, SMR is for you.

Some of the functions SMR supports for the social service provider are:

  • Needs assessment
  • Outcomes assessment
  • Treatment planning
  • Adverse incident reporting
  • Level of service decision making support
